Background
UNICEF in Uzbekistan produces various communication materials in English for advocacy such as advocacy materials, human interest stories, briefing kits, speeches, publications and reports etc. These materials are important for advocacy with decision makers and providing information regarding UNICEF's activities in Uzbekistan and achievements.
UNICEF has also produced several documents, and drafts need rewriting or/and editing in English as per international publishing standards.
As part of UNICEF's knowledge management initiative, the office needs to document project implementation process, lessons learned, challenges and achievements for sharing through international forums. Human interest stories and other news stories are regularly disseminated on different international platforms. Hence, the quality of these stories and materials must be of internationally acceptable quality, in terms of content and language.
To ensure high quality written materials in English, which can be later used for various communication products, Communication Section requires services of an international writer/editors in English with a flexible, assignment-based hiring arrangement.
Required qualifications, areas of expertise or selection criteria
a) Master's degree in public health communication or development communication, journalism, or other related fields;
b) At least 5 years' experience of writing articles, features, human interest stories, blogs, or reports on social issues for public audiences in English preferably in a development environment. Experience as an English language writer, journalist, editor is essential;
c) Published written work on issues of children's health, education or protection;
d) Ability to use ICT, including Microsoft Office applications, as a tool;
e) Professional fluency in written and spoken English;
f) Native English speakers are encouraged to apply.
Procedures and Working Conditions
Since the consultancy is off-shore, Office will not provide IT equipment nor internet access to the contractor. However, the contractor will be expected to use her/his own laptop with necessary applications such as Skype to complete assignments. Consultancy does not envisage travel for the contractor.
UNICEF will reserve all copyrights on content produced during this consultancy. All payments will be made via bank transfer.
